Join the effort to raise $220,000 to furnish 40 new apartments for formerly homeless families

The Comforts of Home Campaign

More than 100 people will exit homelessness and move into new apartments at Bellwether Housing's Arbora Court in the spring of 2018.

We want them to move into comfortable, fully furnished homes - not empty apartments.

You can help us create welcoming homes by donating to help Bellwether Housing purchase beds, tables, sofas and chairs as well as all the items that make a home comfy and functional like bedding, towels, pots and pans, and dishes. Read more about how to help outfit an apartment here.

To reach our goal, we need to raise $220,000. You can help

Bellwether Housing

Founded in 1980, Bellwether Housing now owns and manages 30 apartment communities throughout Seattle. Over 3,260 residents call our buildings home.

We envision communities where people of all incomes and backgrounds share in the opportunity and prosperity of our region.
We believe that everyone should live in a home they feel good about. We live out that belief by maintaining our properties to the highest standards and by providing our residents with responsive, respectful, and culturally sensitive service.

Arbora Court Apartments

In spring 2018, 133 apartments developed by Bellwether Housing will open in the bustling University District.
Arbora Court is steps from grocery stores, a community center, frequent bus routes, job opportunities, and services.
40 of the apartments at Arbora Court are set aside for families transitioning out of homelessness.
Arbora Court features a courtyard, a playground, energy efficient features, and on-site support for residents provided by Wellspring Family Services and Bellwether's Resident Services Coordination program.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Bellwether Housing?

Bellwether Housing is a non-profit developer and manager of affordable housing. We put greater opportunity within reach for our residents by providing affordable homes located near job centers, public transportation, schools, and services. We amplify our impact by helping other organizations in the Puget Sound region do the same. Founded in 1980 to provide workforce housing in central Seattle, Bellwether Housing is now home to independent seniors, adults with disabilities, working families, immigrants seeking opportunity, young people just starting out, and families transitioning out of homelessness. Our properties are located in Seattle neighborhoods such as Queen Anne, Belltown, Wallingford, Northgate, Capitol Hill, Columbia City, and the Rainier Valley.

What is the goal of the Comforts of Home Campaign?

The goal of the campaign is to raise $220,000 to use to purchase quality, durable furnishings and home essentials like bedding, cookware, and dishes for 40 apartments at our new Arbora Court Apartments that homeless families and individuals will move into in Spring 2018. By moving into fully furnished apartments, these forty families will be able to more quickly settle into their new homes and focus other areas of life including health, work, and school.

What type of furniture will Bellwether Housing purchase?

We will purchase attractive and durable furnishings from an industry leader. All furnishings will meet the highest environmental safety standards. Bellwether will purchase pieces like a couch, a dining table, dining chairs, beds, nightstands, dressers, and desks for the units, depending on the apartment size and the expected occupancy.

Who will this campaign benefit?

This campaign will benefit 40 households transitioning out of homelessness. We expect that these families will arrive at Arbora Court with few possessions and limited resources for setting up their new homes, thus Bellwether seeks to furnish these families new apartments. Households will range in size from a single individual to families of six. The families and individuals will have been residing in the greater Puget Sound region prior to moving into Arbora Court.

Where are these 40 apartments located?

The apartments are located at Bellwether Housing's new Arbora Court Apartments in the University District of Seattle. Arbora Court construction will be completed in May 2018, and new residents will move in shortly afterward. Bellwether Housing's team of real estate developers is working with Weber + Thompson architects and Walsh Construction on the building. University Christian Church was instrumental in making Arbora Court possible by selling what was formely the curch parking lot to Bellwether Housing at a cost below market rate.

How can I help?

There are three main ways you can support the Comforts of Home Campaign: You can make a donation on this page toward furnishings and home essentials. You can cover the cost of an entire apartment or any other amount that works for you. Secondly, you can help by shopping for home goods on Bellwether's registry or our Ikea registry. Both registries contain all the items we need - we wanted to give you an option of where to shop. Or, you can go and purchase items online or in-store using one of the shopping lists we've created. Getting a group, like your office, faith community, or sports team, involved is a fun way to increase your impact. Bellwether will coordinate volunteer days for groups that purchase items for entire apartments to come to Arbora Court and set up their items in an apartment. If you plan to adopt an apartment using any of the methods above, please write to us at to let us know which size apartment you plan to adopt. You and your group have the option of setting up your housewarming items in the apartment you adopt. If that interests you, please let us know in your email.
