Apartments affordable to working people, their families and low-income seniors provide a triple bottom-line benefit to communities
Bellwether’s expert staff has developed and currently manages more than 1,850 apartments in neighborhoods throughout Seattle. We buy and rehabilitate existing apartment buildings and build new apartment buildings—always ensuring they are near jobs and transportation.
We finance our buildings using a combination of sources, including investments made possible by the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, bank loans, and public funding sources such as the City of Seattle’s Housing Levy and the State of Washington’s Housing Trust Fund.
Property management is core to Bellwether’s success. We are committed to maintaining our apartment buildings for the long term, which means our buildings are kept in excellent condition today and for many years to come. Our property management employees are good neighbors, as well as good managers.
Many of our residents are employed in low-wage or entry-level jobs; some are seniors and disabled individuals who rely on Social Security. Some residents are also served by social service organizations that provide support to families and individuals who need them.
Sunset House
In 2011, Bellwether purchased Sunset House Apartments, a seven-story building in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood. The previous owner, UFCW Local 21, wanted a buyer that could keep it in use as affordable housing. Bellwether is completely rehabilitating the aging systems and interiors. Our senior and disabled residents now pay HUD-subsidized rent based on their incomes.
